AA Badenhorst 2013

Again I stumble in the Portuguese variety, Verdelho. This time, blended with some other varieties coming from old vines. the spectrum is composed of: Chenin blanc, Grenache blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, Verdelho, Marsannne, White Grenache, Clairette Blanche, Palomino and Chardonnay.

Deep aromas of melon, white plum, lemon and many other special things.

In the mouth is like a living fish out of the water. Crisp acidity, tropical soul, full of white plum, pineapple, gooseberries that hides and reveals cantaloupe. It also tastes to many other amazing and infinite things that never ends.

Dona Berta 2012

Two years ago the 2010 vintage put a spell on me. On the day I bought this bottle it was new years eve, I did not though twice on bring it with me.

Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão and Touriga Franca.

The aroma is chemical, dark, smoked and long.

What a finesse! Smoky, with a light floral persistence, dark with heavy and dense fruit jam that you could spread on the bread. It hydrates your soul with a brilliant balance.

Termina limpo.

In the day I stumbled in Alselmo Mendes wines, here in Cape Town and I was lecturing the store manager about the wine portfolio, I was informed it just arrived a South African Alvarinho made from ... Albariño. I had been before on Newton Johnson and I found the wines character a little bit raw. On top of it, the grape does not goes well outside of its natural habitat, hence, I put the bottle in the bag in order to experience it.

It has a simple ans opaque aroma filled with lemon.

For those that are aware of the grape character, identifies that keeps the utterly characteristics. Dry, glues to the flesh. it have lemon, lime and mandarin. What a trio. Sharp and focused the only missing part is the fine and crisp acidity. Ends clean.
